đš Apple may have just sent a warning shot across the memory industry.
Apple reportedly testing CXMT memory chips might sound like a routine supplier check.
But if the testing goes further, it could have much bigger implications. đ
Right now, Micron, Samsung and SK hynix are major players in Appleâs memory supply chain. Thereâs still no confirmed CXMT deal â but Apple may not need one yet.
Because simply having another credible supplier on the table changes the conversation.
đ€ More competition
đ° More leverage on pricing
đŠ More flexibility on supply
âïž More pressure on existing suppliers
And the timing is interesting.
DRAM supply is already tight, while demand from AI and data centers continues to reshape the memory market.
If CXMT can clear Appleâs technical requirements and navigate the regulatory hurdles, Apple could eventually have another source of memory â giving the company more leverage over some of the biggest names in the industry.
The real question isn't:
âWill CXMT replace Samsung or Micron tomorrow?â
Itâs:
âWhat happens to pricing power when Apple has another credible option?â đ
Sometimes, you don't need to replace the incumbent to disrupt the market.
You just need to prove you can.
Now the market will be watching three things closely:
đ§Ș CXMTâs test results
đșđž U.S. regulatory developments
đ How Micron, Samsung & SK hynix respond
Smart diversification for Apple â or the beginning of real pricing pressure on memory stocks?
The headline may be about CXMT.
The bigger story could be the leverage Apple gains from having options. đ
