Japan's yen defense is now confirmed by both governments. The MOF said it purchased yen with the US Treasury through the New York Fed, marking the first coordinated US-Japan operation of this kind since 1998. Two intervention rounds totaling about 14-15tn yen pushed USD/JPY from above 162 to below 156. Bessent's stated support raises the credibility of further action, but lasting currency adjustment still depends on policy fundamentals alongside official buying.
