OpenAI has cut prices again.
GPT-5.6 Luna price dropped directly by 80%, and GPT-5.6 Terra also dropped by 20%.
I mentioned a few days ago that I have always believed large language models will eventually become cheaper and cheaper, and the real competition won't be about model capabilities but about price.
Because the model itself is hard to form a long-term moat.
Today OpenAI cuts prices, tomorrow Anthropic follows, the day after Google follows again. In the end, the competition is not about who has more model parameters, but who can provide the same capabilities at a lower cost.
In the internet era, browsers, search engines, and email eventually became almost free because the real profit was not from these products themselves, but from the business models behind them.
I believe AI will follow a similar path.
Models will increasingly become basic capabilities; what truly determines the value of an AI company will no longer be the model, but the ecosystem, entry points, enterprise clients, and the ability to continuously reduce inference costs.
This is also why I have always felt that a business model relying solely on selling models is becoming increasingly difficult.
The price war has just begun, and the real competition is just starting.
