Goodbye, July. Hello, August.
July gave us powerful trends. August is about to test them.
A new trading month begins with politics, macro data, earnings, central banks, and crypto all competing for market attention.
Here's what I'm watching this week:
• Trump's latest tariff headlines :Markets are once again pricing geopolitical and trade uncertainty.
• Japan & USD/JPY :The yen remains one of the most important macro indicators. Any surprise from Japan could ripple across global markets.
• Treasury yields :Bonds continue to drive risk appetite. The next move in yields could shape both equities and crypto.
• Big Tech earnings :Guidance matters more than the numbers. Markets want to know whether the AI investment cycle is still accelerating.
• Oil after July's rally :Brent was one of July's strongest performers. Can the momentum continue?
• Bitcoin & Ethereum :ETF flows, institutional demand, and relative strength remain key themes to monitor.
• US Dollar (DXY) :A stronger dollar could pressure risk assets, while a weaker dollar may provide another tailwind.
July's standout performers were Brent Crude Oil (+23%) and Ethereum (+21%), proving that capital flowed toward the strongest narratives, not the entire market.
One more chart worth watching: the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) just lost the 100 level. If dollar weakness continues, it could become another tailwind for risk assets in August.
Now the question is:
Will August reward the same narratives, or will capital rotate into new leaders?
What's at the top of your watchlist this week?
