$ETH s staking economy may be approaching an important transition. EIPs 8361 and 8363 raise a fundamental question: how much ETH issuance should be required to maintain network security when staking infrastructure has grown far beyond the original L1 model? For years, higher staking participation has strengthened Ethereum’s security, but that security has also come with an ongoing issuance cost. Even relatively modest inflation compounds into a meaningful burden for ETH holders over time. The landscape is different today. Restaking, liquid staking, and other staking-related networks have created additional sources of economic coordination and security. As these systems mature, Ethereum has more ways to support its security ecosystem without depending entirely on continuous L1 issuance. That makes a gradual reduction in issuance an interesting long-term direction. The likely outcome is a healthier balance between ETH remaining liquid and ETH being committed to staking. Strong staking protocols should continue to thrive by providing genuine utility, while weaker models may lose relevance naturally. The bigger story isn’t simply lower issuance. It’s Ethereum becoming increasingly comfortable with an ecosystem where security and value creation are supported by more than inflation alone.
