By last month, three of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies – Lilly $LLY , Roche $RHHBY, and Bristol-Myers Squibb $BMY – had made competing leadership claims about AI-computing infrastructure within a nine-month window.
AI now informs the design of every small-molecule program and the majority of large molecules over at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) which is deploying Anthropic’s Claude across their entire organization.
Over at Roche/Genentech, all their antibody programs and ~90% of eligible small molecule programs “integrate AI to streamline discovery, make design more predictive, and increase the likelihood of success.”
The list of pharma companies investing heavily in AI goes on, and many of these investments and efforts seem to dwarf the value propositions on offer from Recursion $RXRX and Abcellera $ABCL.
Using AI for drug discovery is quickly becoming the rule for big pharma companies, not the exception.
