The overhang from the Coldcard security incident remains a potential near-term risk for Bitcoin as affected users continue moving their funds.
Current high-confidence estimates point to 1,596 $BTC spread across roughly 7,300 addresses. If a suspected fourth wave is confirmed, that figure could rise to 2,055 $BTC —valued at approximately $130 million.
It's also important to note that BIP32 allows a single wallet seed to generate many child addresses, meaning the number of addresses does not necessarily reflect the number of individual victims.
At the same time, attackers are reportedly using spoofed "hardware audit" emails to direct users to fake websites that install remote-access software, increasing the risk of additional compromises.
If more users are affected during the migration process, the amount of BTC under attacker control could grow, adding to potential short-term selling pressure and keeping market participants cautious.
