Any trading decision should have a time frame attached to it. Without a defined time horizon, it’s difficult to determine whether a thesis is valid or simply too early to judge. Recently, I came across a viewpoint suggesting that in the next Bitcoin bull cycle, due to MicroStrategy’s strategic changes, $MSTR may no longer move in perfect sync with Bitcoin’s upside as it has in previous cycles. The conclusion was that buying $MSTR may no longer be the best choice and that investors should simply hold Bitcoin instead. No one can fully prove or disprove this thesis today — time will be the ultimate judge. However, there are two important factors to consider: 1. Volatility matters. Look at the difference in potential moves between the asset and the stock. If Bitcoin doubles from current levels, it would move toward around $130K and break previous highs. If $MSTR doubles, it would only need to reach around $200. The upside path and volatility profile are not identical. 2. Timing and market inertia matter. The argument that $MSTR may eventually lose its ability to outperform Bitcoin could be correct. But the key question is: when will that happen? It may only become obvious in the middle or later stages of the next Bitcoin cycle. By then, Bitcoin could already be trading around $130K, while $MSTR may have already recovered toward previous highs. Bitcoin may continue its upward trend afterward, while $MSTR could fail to keep pace — but the opportunity window before that point may still exist. Markets often repeat this pattern. In early 2023, many narratives such as L2s, modular blockchains, and other emerging sectors were heavily discussed. Some ultimately proved less sustainable, but that did not prevent traders from capturing opportunities during their strongest phases. The lesson: a thesis can be correct in the long run and still be wrong for the timing of a trade.
