#AMZNMissesButRallies Amazon actually crushed Q2 estimates — revenue $200.6B (vs. $196.5B expected), EPS $5.75 (vs. $1.82 expected), AWS growing 36.7% (its fastest in 18 quarters) to $42.2B. Shares surged ~9-11% after-hours to a record. The "miss" was in Q3 guidance: Amazon guided revenue to $197-202B, below the $204.1B analysts expected, blaming tough comparisons after shifting Prime Day into Q2 this year (adjusting for that, growth would be ~400bps higher). Capex guidance also jumped to $220B from $200B, and trailing free cash flow flipped to a $7.6B outflow from an $18.2B inflow. Notably, much of the EPS beat was a one-off — $53.4B in non-operating gains tied to Amazon's Anthropic stake, not core operations. Strip that out and it's still a strong quarter (AWS beat guidance by 4.2%, EBIT beat by 16.5%), but the headline EPS number overstates the operational story. Markets clearly cared more about AWS acceleration and AI/chips run-rates (>$25B each) than the softer Q3 revenue guide.
