The data just handed the doves a gift. June PCE fell 0.1% on the month, its first negative print since 2020, dragging the annual rate to 3.7% from 4.1%, while consumer spending stayed strong. Disinflation and demand at the same time is the closest thing to goldilocks the macro tape has offered in a while.
Two caveats keep me honest. Core PCE is still 3.3%, comfortably above the Fed's 2% target, and the Fed held today rather than pivoting, so this is easing pressure, not a green light. But the direction matters: softening inflation with resilient growth is exactly the mix that lets a hawkish Fed stand down over time, and that's the setup risk assets want. For crypto, it's a slow tailwind, not a switch. The path to easier policy just got a little clearer. Watching whether the trend holds into next print.
Not advice, just analysis.
