The proposed figure shows how prediction markets have developed from a niche crypto product into a major information and trading category. Rival Kalshi has also received a multibillion-dollar valuation, while Coinbase and Robinhood could benefit from growing interest in event contracts. Prediction markets can provide useful probabilities by requiring participants to risk capital on uncertain outcomes. However, rapid expansion creates questions involving gambling laws, insider information, manipulation, and contract resolution. In my view, Polymarket’s valuation is only sustainable if it becomes trusted infrastructure rather than a platform driven mainly by viral political bets. It needs transparent resolution standards, stronger surveillance, deeper liquidity, and activity that remains healthy outside election periods. Long-term success will depend more on credibility and regulation than on the number of markets listed.
