A big policy shift is reshaping Western supply chains for optical parts, and it is touching companies like $AAOI, $SIVE which is Jabil, $LITE, and Coherent.
The Trump administration is reportedly preparing a ban on new Chinese optical transceivers and data center devices. If it goes through, Chinese suppliers such as Innolight and Eoptolink would take the direct hit.
The plan described is to block all new transceiver imports, then grant exemptions to many suppliers that are not based in China.
That would push the industry toward a more fragmented supply chain, and it would put more weight on Western manufacturers to fill the gap. $AAOI is one of the names in that position.
This is part of why optical modules have been moving higher. The narrative is no longer just about demand, it is about where that demand can actually be sourced from.
