“Bitcoin will be dead when quantum computers arrive.” I keep hearing this argument, and honestly, I almost laughed. Apparently, according to some people, BTC is finished because quantum computers will crack it, the upgrades are too complicated, and the community will eventually split the chain in half. But are we analyzing Bitcoin—or watching too much sci-fi? Let’s be realistic. Yes, the quantum threat is real. I’m not denying that. But it’s not some monster arriving tomorrow morning. It’s 2026. The strongest quantum machines today are still nowhere near the scale needed to break Bitcoin’s elliptic-curve cryptography. Estimates for what would actually be required are still in the hundreds of thousands to millions of physical qubits, depending on the assumptions and error-correction model. And Bitcoin developers aren’t sitting around waiting to get wiped out. Quantum-resistant address designs are already being discussed through BIPs, including BIP-360, while BIP-361 is part of the broader debate around how Bitcoin could migrate away from vulnerable legacy coins. Yes, the arguments are intense. Some people say freezing unmoved coins would basically be confiscation. Others argue that doing nothing would eventually be far worse. But here’s the important part: They’re actually having the conversation. Bitcoin has survived massive arguments before. SegWit caused controversy. Taproot caused controversy. Block-size debates nearly tore the community apart. And somehow, Bitcoin kept moving. So why would quantum resistance automatically mean Bitcoin dies? If quantum computers eventually become powerful enough to steal private keys, then not upgrading would be the real existential risk. A temporary split would be a much smaller problem. And the argument that “BTC can't be bought anymore” because of quantum risk? Come on. BTC has already fallen from around $120K to just above $60K. Liquidity has been drained, ETF flows have weakened, and regulatory uncertainty is weighing on the market. None of that has anything to do with quantum computers. #DailyOrbit
