In September 2025, the exit queue backlog peaked at 2.67 million ETH, valued at about $11.7 billion. Now? Zero. Anyone who wants to exit can do so anytime, but no one is leaving. Meanwhile, the entry queue has about 2.499 million ETH waiting, with a 43-day wait to join. The difference between those entering and exiting is over two million ETH. Currently, about 40.8 million ETH are staked across the network, accounting for 33.49% of the total supply, with 883,724 active validators and a staking annual yield of 2.64%. The motivation to exit is usually to sell for cash or due to lack of confidence in the network. No one queuing to exit means these stakers are not in a hurry to cash out and find holding for staking rewards more worthwhile than selling. The queue to enter means nearly 2.5 million ETH outside want to lock in. A network where no one wants to leave and many want to enter sends a clearer signal than any candlestick chart. Moreover, there is a bigger context—Ethereum ETFs have seen a cumulative net inflow of $10.48 billion by mid-July. Institutions are buying ETFs, and whales are staking and locking up ETH; these two forces are simultaneously draining liquidity. Wallet addresses are decreasing, and the amount of tradable ETH is shrinking. Vitalik also recently proposed an “ultra-light chain” aiming to compress each validator’s state to about 6 bytes, replacing per-epoch updates with ZK proofs, targeting scaling validators to the million level. It seems the team is preparing for much larger-scale staking. The staking yield of 2.64% isn’t high, but combined with ETH’s appreciation expectations, it is attractive for long-term capital. These people aren’t exiting not because they don’t want to sell, but because they believe now is not the time to sell.
