When Saylor says "Never sell your Bitcoin," who exactly is he talking to?
To you. Not to himself.
On August 3rd, Strategy sold another 1,638 BTC, cashing out $104.7 million.
The average price was $63,957.
The holding cost was $75,419.
Each coin lost nearly $11,500.
This is the company's third sale since the end of June. Previously, they sold 32 coins at the end of May as a test, and 3,588 coins in early July.
And now again.
Moreover, the board has raised the cash-out limit from $1.25 billion directly to $5 billion — a fourfold increase.
Someone asked Saylor: Didn’t you say "Never sell"?
Saylor’s response is the most interesting part today.
He said on X:
"When I say 'Never sell your Bitcoin,' I am speaking as one holder to another. I have never sold my Bitcoin, not a single satoshi. Strategy is a publicly traded company, not my wallet."
In plain language:
"The slogan I shout is for you to hear. I myself haven’t sold — but my company sells when it should."
CEO Phong Le added even more directly:
"When selling Bitcoin benefits the company, we sell. We won’t just stand by and say 'We will never sell Bitcoin.'"
He even said: "We are the JPMorgan of the crypto economy; whether we sell 1,000 BTC or 840,000 BTC, to me it’s not even worth discussing."
Look at what’s "worth discussing":
A net loss of $8.2 billion in Q2.
Stock price dropped from over $400 to about $94.
Down 40% this year, down 70% in the past 12 months.
$8.2 billion loss. 70% drop. From $400 to $94.
And then you tell me "Never sell"?
Where did the money from selling these 1,638 BTC go?
Half paid preferred stock dividends — a 12% annual dividend that must be paid.
The other half was used to repurchase discounted preferred stock.
Saylor’s personal belief hasn’t lost a penny. Strategy’s balance sheet is bleeding.
So my conclusion is simple:
Personal belief is personal belief; a public company is a public company.
Saylor’s personal wallet and Strategy’s balance sheet are two different things.
He says "Hold BTC even if you have to sell a kidney" — that’s for you to do.
He himself hasn’t sold a single coin.
The company sells when it should, takes losses when it must, and the price falls when it does.
Don’t read a KOL’s motivational talk as a public company’s financial report.
Your wallet holds your money.
Saylor’s wallet holds his money.
Strategy’s balance sheet holds shareholders’ money — including yours.
