Did you notice?
Last week, the combined net inflow of US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs was about $1.1 billion.
In the past, this would have been a signal for a rally.
But what is BTC at now?
$63,900.
A week ago it was $65,000, today $63,900. It can’t rise, it even fell.
$1.1 billion went in, but the price stayed flat.
Something’s not right.
What’s even stranger is that the funds are starting to diverge.
Data from August 10 shows Bitcoin ETFs had a single-day net inflow of 1,731 BTC, about $112 million; Ethereum ETFs had a single-day net inflow of 29,900 ETH, about $56.78 million.
Bitcoin’s weekly net inflow was $799 million, Ethereum’s was $225 million.
Money is flowing into both.
But reports also show Bitcoin ETFs turning back to net outflows—continuous multi-day capital outflows totaling over $465 million.
On one side, weekly net inflows hit a new high since April; on the other, single-day net outflows reappear.
Institutions are fighting among themselves.
BlackRock’s IBIT attracted $86 million in one day, Fidelity’s FBTC added $40.6 million.
But Invesco’s BTCO saw $19.4 million outflow in one day, VanEck’s HODL outflowed $10.5 million.
Big institutions are buying, small funds are running.
This isn’t unanimous bullishness; it’s internal institutional division.
Then look at the on-chain data.
There’s a giant whale who sold a total of 7,513 BTC over the past three weeks, worth about $486.9 million.
Not sold in one day, but planned, executed over several weeks.
There’s also a suspected miner address that transferred 6,494 BTC to Binance over the past 20 days, worth $421 million, at an average price of $64,798.
In the last two days alone, it deposited 2,802 BTC, worth $182 million.
What’s more painful is—this batch of BTC was received from the institutional trading platform FalconX a year ago, at an average price of $116,110.
Held for a whole year, lost 44%, and gave up.
So the current situation is:
ETFs are buying, whales are selling.
Miners are selling, retail investors are confused.
$1.1 billion inflow is perfectly offset by $486 million whale selling + $421 million miner selling on-chain.
BTC is consolidating around $64,000, with volatility dropping to the lowest level this year.
Both bulls and bears are waiting for a signal.
Wednesday’s CPI.
BTC now is like two people in a tug-of-war.
On one side, Wall Street ETF institutional funds, pumping in hundreds of millions weekly.
On the other, on-chain whales and miners, dumping tens of billions.
Who wins will decide the next direction.
If CPI is below expectations, rate cut expectations rise, ETF funds accelerate inflow, whale selling pressure is absorbed—BTC breaks through $65,000, heading to $68,000-$70,000.
If CPI is above expectations, rate cut expectations cool, ETF funds hesitate or retreat—on-chain selling pressure has no buyers, breaks below $63,000, heading to $60,000 or even $58,000.
What about ETH?
Ethereum ETFs have had net inflows for five consecutive weeks, the longest streak since 2026.
Institutional allocation is spreading from "pure Bitcoin base holdings" to "Ethereum growth logic."
ETH’s ETF funds show stronger resilience, with net inflow scale sometimes even surpassing BTC.
But ETH’s price isn’t doing well either—$1,878, down 2% in 24 hours, worse than BTC.
Funds are coming in, prices are falling.
This isn’t a fundamental problem; it’s a symptom of the entire market’s liquidity being drained.
At this point, don’t guess the direction.
BTC at $64,000, ETH at $1,870, there’s room and reason for both up and down.
Focus on two things:
First, Wednesday’s CPI. This is the biggest short-term catalyst.
Second, whether on-chain whales and miners continue to sell. If selling pressure eases, ETF buying can push prices up.
Remember one thing:
ETFs are slow fire, whales are cold water.
If the fire is big enough, the water will be burned dry.
If the water is enough, the fire will be extinguished.
Right now, fire and water are equal.
Whoever breaks first determines the next direction.
Let’s discuss in the comments: Do you think CPI will be bullish or bearish? Will BTC go up to 68,000 first or down to 60,000 first?
