ADP Halved Directly! But Don't Celebrate Too Early — 5 Quick Takes
Quick Take 1: 44,000 vs 75,000
ADP was directly halved. June still had 95,000, July only 44,000. The lowest in six months.
Services barely held up with +47,000, goods-producing sector down 3,000.
This is not a slowdown, this is a stall.
Quick Take 2: Once the data came out, the probability of a September rate hike dropped from 67% to 59%
But don't celebrate too early —
On the same day, Fed Governor Cook said, "If inflation doesn't fall, we are ready to support rate hikes." Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari said, "We need to hike now, starting as early as September."
Officials are desperately pulling back.
Employment stalls, inflation doesn't. The Fed is stuck in the middle, caught in a bind.
Quick Take 3: BTC is consolidating at 64,000
ETF net inflows exceeded $200 million in the past two days but couldn't push the price. Institutions are buying, price is steady.
64,000 is not the end, it's the calm before the storm.
Quick Take 4: Friday's Nonfarm Payrolls are the main event
Expected at 85,000.
If Nonfarm also disappoints (<60,000) → rate hike expectations collapse → BTC could surge to 68,000.
If Nonfarm exceeds expectations (>100,000) → rate hike expectations return → BTC could retest 60,000.
ADP is just a trailer, Nonfarm is the feature, CPI is the bonus.
Quick Take 5: My advice — now is not the time to go heavy
Watch all three events before betting.
Some peers say "Don't treat ADP like Nonfarm for betting" — I agree.
Be patient, the direction will come on Friday.
Don't die before dawn, and don't fall to FOMO.
