A massive short liquidation can create a sharp move, but it doesn’t automatically mean the breakout has real strength behind it. Hyperliquid reportedly liquidates around 20% of the position first — meaning roughly **$10.2M of forced buying** would enter its perpetuals market. That sounds huge. But compared with the broader BTC futures market, it represents only around **0.02% of total futures open interest.** So yes, that forced buying could clear thin liquidity and push price through nearby asks.
