Tether keeps printing money, literally and figuratively. The largest stablecoin issuer reported around $1.5B in net operating profit for Q2, grew its reserve surplus to $4.11B, and expanded physical gold holdings past 146 tons, all while USDT circulation topped $184B and 60% market share. A stablecoin company is quietly becoming one of the more profitable financial firms on earth. The gold detail is the one I find most telling. An issuer of a dollar-token stacking 146 tons of physical gold is hedging the very fiat it's pegged to, a quiet statement about where it sees long-term reserve risk. Bullish for the stablecoin category's durability; still worth the standing caveat that Tether's disclosures remain lighter than a bank's, so "profit" deserves the usual scrutiny.
